A question...

We've gotten the new chapter packs.

And yet it is only Richard, so far as I can recall, that has successfully integrated the new cards into his decks.

I personally thought that with the new cards I would find the excitement and drive to build new decks for our beloved game. But alas that was not the case.

With the official demise of UDE's VS system and the lamentations it got from its fan base I couldn't help but wonder at the state of AGOT right now. Especially here in our own little nook.

By last count the only active AGOT players were yours truely, Gil, Richard and Mikko.
Aaron has not really played that much even after getting some cards from the chapter packs. It has been a long time since Icy has played a game and has shifted full time to Bleach.

I myself am guilty of not finding time for AGOT. Like I said in a long gone article AGOT is like a girlfriend with the same enormous demands on a player's time. You cannot casually pick up cards and build decks around it. You cannot expect to win without spending a lot of time testing and tweaking your decks. And with everything going on in my life right now AGOT took the extreme backseat.

I have made my peace with VS. And right now I get the feeling that I should also make my peace with AGOT. What do you guys think?

Well, of course, I can only speak for myself. I realize that time is always in short supply, and that there are so many other things to do. But even if AGOT continues as only a sometime thing, I always bring at least one deck, and pick up a pack or two.

My interest in the game has not waned, and I still remain hopeful that we will someday order the Core Sets and the remaining Chapter Packs. If shipping were not so heavy, and my own funding so light, I would have done it solo. But that is fine, too: I don't mind waiting for that time when we all have the resources to pool together.

I miss our tournaments, and playing regularly, and I have been even building new decks (or at least configurations) to keep from getting trapped in the box of only using the exact same cards every time I playtest.

So I remain keen on the game, even though it is difficult to do with no new cards and no regular tournaments or even pick-up games. Most of all, I am glad that I can still have fun at XP even when no one is playing AGOT; my primary fear was the repeat of what happened to the old LOTR group. With no reason to meet regularly once the game folded, the friendships drifted apart as well. I'm glad that isn't the case here.

But I do still hope that we can order some more cards, and maybe even get more regular ganes going. I had one friend from LOTR text me (the irony!) that he was interested in getting into the new AGOT LCG, and did XP stock any. I had to tell him no, but we hoped to order some. =)

So...are we?

Hey, sers. It's been a while since I last checked the blog and I apologize for that.

It's sad to see that AGOT has come to the crossroads. I still love the game and I know that those that played it (and still play it to a certain degree) love the game not just for the story but for the mechanics and the camaraderie. Unfortunately, I also share Ron's sentiments. The game has drifted to a point where I wouldn't even consider the few games that we manage to play (usually Rich and me) casual. It's far in between.

As Ron said, VS was and is a dead end. I never managed to get rid of my cards and get some money back for what I spent. So, I've accepted that. Bleach has been occupying my time as of late(though I haven't spent much as I have on the game as compared to Magic or AGOT). I guess that it's the community and the activity that's keeping me in the game. AGOT has sadly taken a back seat. I do tweak my decks here and there but I don't do as much as I used to given that the activity has waned to a certain degree with me and Rich only playing occassionaly when the time permits.

As Rich mentioned, I'm glad that the friendships that came out of AGOT is still strong and despite the wane (whether temporary or not) of the game, we still hang out. So I attribute AGOT as one of the major factors that friendships were established. I also would like to give Rich a pat on the back for keeping an open mind (learing and playing DOTA of all things) of things despite the lack of activity in AGOT, whether casually playing or not.

Sorry if I'm rambling. Suffice to say that AGOT will always be a game that I will love and will go back to if there is some semblance of activity with our little nook of players.

So at this point, if we do have an opportunity to order the new cards, will this revive the community somewhat? In the interim, do we go Classic so that we can just fan the flames a bit and feel the power once more?

Let's talk when I get back...

thanks for the comments guys.
ser gil that almost turned into a love note hehehe.

if there is move to buy the new core sets count me in. But this time I'll have to split it with someone.

In the end I think its the friendships built on AGOT that I miss.

And I have somewhat turned into a DOTA-hater recently (because a lot of times it annoys me that people choose it over other scheduled items)

But yes God Bless AGOT for all the friendships
